In late November 2022, Christ the King Catholic Church in Effiakuma-Takoradi, Ghana, celebrated the 60th anniversary of its founding. The theme for the event was “Celebrating the Goodness of the Lord.” The Lord’s goodness, however, was not limited to the church; it was extended to the Conventual Franciscan friars as well.
On Saturday, November 26, 2022, six friars from the Provincial Custody of St. Anthony of Padua in Ghana were ordained to the priesthood by the Most Reverend Henryk M. JAGODZIŃSKI, Apostolic Nuncio to Ghana. The ordinations took place at Christ the King Catholic Church. The new priests are Friars Leonard CUDJOE, Louis Etsey NANEWODO, Jonathan MUTUO, Sylvester Eugene KOOMSON, Edward Kutin MENSAH and Felix Nana Kwame AGYAPONG.
In his homily, the Nuncio spoke to the newly ordained about the primary call of the new responsibility that they have embraced, namely, to serve and to build up the Church of Christ here on earth. He further explained that they should not be selective in their service, but be open to embracing everyone, the poor and the rich alike.
Others attending included the Provincial Custos, Friar Vitus Edem Yao MENSAH; the Assistant General for the African Federation of Conventual Franciscans (AFCOF), Friar Anthony Bezo KUTIERO; the Very Reverend Father Francis Kofi LEMAIRE, Vicar General of the Catholic Diocese of Sekondi-Takoradi, Ghana; and clergy and consecrated persons from near and far. We thank God for the laborers He always sends to his harvest.
